Privacy and Data Handling
Short and plain: what we keep about you, who handles it, and how to get it back or removed.
What we collect
Your email address and name from your account; your practice attempts, answers, scores and notes; your purchase records (handled by Stripe — we never see or store full card numbers); support tickets you send; and technical context such as browser, page, language, and an IP-derived security key used to protect the free trial.
Site analytics, counted by us on our own domain. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any third-party tracking script, and no analytics data leaves Cortova. For each page view we record the page, the referring website (its address only, never a search query), an approximate country from our host, a device category, a browser language, and a screen-width band. Your IP address is used only to compute a one-way hash together with your browser identifier and a secret that changes every day; the hash is what we store, your IP address is not, and because the daily secret changes, the hash cannot be linked to yesterday's or tomorrow's. All of it is stored as daily totals rather than as a record of individual visits, and none of it is joined to your account, purchases, or practice results. We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and setting cortova_no_track in your browser's local storage switches counting off entirely.
Optional study-tip and course-offer emails are separate from anonymous analytics. If you opt in, we store your account email, consent wording and time, preferred email language, authenticated activity timestamps used to identify your most recent activity, and delivery and unsubscribe records. We use that activity time to schedule up to four follow-ups after inactivity. Return links carry an opaque signed identifier so we can provide the free mini reference sheet; they never grant paid course access. We stop this series after a purchase or unsubscribe. You can use the trial without opting in.
When you tell us which edition of the National Electrical Code your licensing authority requires, we record that statement with the date and the exact wording you confirmed. We keep it so that both of us have the same record of what was agreed at the time of purchase.
Why we collect it
To deliver the course, keep your progress and notes, fulfil and support your purchase, apply the refund and referral rules you agreed to, protect the course from abuse, and improve the product.
Retention and your choices
Course and audit records are retained as long as needed to operate the program and meet legal and accounting obligations. Email help@cortova.net to request a copy of your data or deletion of your account; audit records required for financial or dispute purposes may be retained after deletion.
Children
CortovaVoltPrep is for adults preparing for a professional license. It is not directed to children under 13.
